I just have a few questions about the whole housing process for freshmen for any current students or anyone else that may know that’s in here. Can freshmen stay in the program houses? Also, would waiting until the final date to enroll influence my chances negatively in any way?
Hi and congratulations!
Yes you can request a program house.
For your first year all the selections housing are random. You do not personally select your dorm, you make requests. When you are making your housing request, you can request if you would like to be considered for a single or double, program house or otherwise. I do believe if you are female, you can also request the all girls dorm. You will let them know if you play an instrument, stay up late or get up extremely early just in case you have a roommate.
For the freshmen (unless you have some type of medical reason) it really is all random. Therefore is does not matter if you sign up in the beginning or on the last day. A lot of the freshmen are on North campus, which I liked. It is further from my classes but it’s right by RPCC, which is where I pick up my mail and eat most of my meals.
Again, congrats and have a good one!
It is random if you want to be placed in general freshmen housing, however program houses have an essay and we take the top x amount of freshmen who applied. If less applied to a program house then there are spots, then everyone who preferenced it will get a spot in the dorm. Which program house were you thinking about? Program houses have great communities if you are interested in getting involved. I live in Risley and am very familiar with program houses.
@DreamingGirl I was thinking about either Risley or JAM.
