“My stepmom died and I was at her funeral.”
“So she wasn’t your real mom? That’s still points off.”

Jeez, that looks like high school, except worse…haha laaaame

I’m currently debating whether or not to switch out of the FIG…

Haha I’m thinking if I really want to join one now :P

I’ve thought about the FIGs a lot, and my opinion is that however “high school” it may seem, the UW has been around much longer than any of us have, and the people who develop these programs have been doing their job for a long time. They didn’t develop FIGs so we could all hate them, they created them because they know what does and doesn’t work. I hate all the busy work ******** as much as the rest of you, and in all honesty I’m only doing a FIG because one of the classes I want was only available if you were in one. Before they had these programs and that FIG class, they probably had people complaining about how they didn’t know enough about their school and the city they live in. Think about it. I’m sure all of us are capable of independent thinking and finding all of that information out on our own, but how much could a little push in the right direction hurt. My brother went to a large university in a large city, and he said he ended up not getting out much and not making very many friends. He stayed in a dorm with a roommate too. And in the end, it is only a quarter that is going to go by incredibly fast. 10 weeks, 10 meetings, not a whole lot. Driver’s Ed for me was worse.

Oh, I’m not trying to say the whole program is bad! I’m sure it works for some people but all I’m saying is it doesn’t work for everybody, particularly freshmen who are a little more independent than others going into college. I don’t think the program should be done away with. But I’m free to state my opinion on why I wouldn’t join one, I think.

I can def see where you’re coming from ctc414. I’m still on the fence on whether or not I should switch out of the FIG. What I hear about FIGs from people who have already taken it and what I see on the FIG website, all just point to tediousness and something that is a waste of time. Right now, I’m trying to decide whether or not I even like the classes in my FIG and if I even should consider staying in. Fortunately, the non-fig classes I’m interested in aren’t full yet. Bahhhh
