Freshmen Year — Dorm v. Apartment

Hi guys!
So I probably should've asked this in my other forum on housing but figured this was a bit more specific so whatever, here goes it...

I've decided I'm going to try to get a single overall. I thing I'm going to shoot for Hansee as my #1. I may go for Lander though if possible :P

Anyways, I plan on staying for summer quarter 2015. Does anyone have any advice as to dorming over apartment living or vice versa? My parents and I were looking at the Cedar apartments, which I liked a lot but aren't cheap. I know being in an apartment freshmen year isn't something most freshmen do, so is it advised against for freshmen since its such a new atmosphere? Meeting people in a dorm hall will obviously be much easier than an apartment. But an apartment makes the summer quarter move (which would be none) easier. My advisor said I should try a dorm freshmen year, and then move to an apartment during the summer which sounds reasonable. Any advice? Also, any advice on specific apartments if you think thats a good idea?

Personally, I will follow your advisor’s advice. Dorms give you the opportunity to establish new friendships and social interactions which can be extremely nice and helpful especially for someone who is an out of state student. Also, for a family type student, being around people might make the transition from home and family to a dorm much easier and less stressful. Worst case, if the dorm life doesn’t fit your life style, you can always move.
