Freshmen year

for those who is currently attending uc davis…
what do i need to watch out during my freshmen year?
is there anything that u regret not doing during ur freshmen year?
can i attend or sign up for anything to get a head start?

i also heard something about upper classmen doing something to freshmen ridding bikes on campus for the first time…
i ono…ackkk

any advise?? please and thank you

"The Freshman Stripe"
Definition: The stripe of muddy water on the back of an unknowing individual (aka a freshman) who rides a bike in the rain with no fenders.

I wouldn't recommend walking around with a campus map infront of you on the first day of classes. If you don't know where the buildings are, walk around with another person the day before to scope out locations. The day before classes is a good time to re-learn how to ride a bike so you won't randomly fall over or something.

One thing that confused me as a freshman is walking into a building and all the room numbers being 120 something, when I'm looking for a room like 20... that means it's in the basement, the first number is a indicator of what floor it's on.

Also, don't complain about your workload or how hard your classes are, or ask for an extention on something just because you had a midterm or other assignment due. Most of the time the TA or upperdivision students will just laugh at you because lower division course are nothing compared to a lot of upperdivision ones.. really.

LOL The Freshman Stripe...hilarious name.

Do you think it's worth it to buy a new bike?

You can have a fender installed on your old one.

No, not about the fender. Just in general. I have a bike but I'm considering getting a new one, but I dunno if I'd really need it.

Just use your old ones.. New ones are too tempting to steal, and Davis is pretty flat so it's not like you need much to get around ...

I rode my bike a lot freshman year.. not so much sophmore year.. got rid of it junior year and I'm fine without it. Bikes aren't really an essential unless you have back to back classes on opposite ends of campus. And even then, you can sneak out early & run if you have to.

is there research opportunities or clubs that i can sign up early during freshmen year?
