Im done with my college apps and such, and I already know where Im going, but my friend is in a dillema. He moved to my high school in 10th grade, and through his high school career he has about a 3.0 W GPA, but his unweighted is like a 2.8-9 (doesnt take many honors courses).

His SAT was 1180 M + V, which I guess isnt bad for his low GPA, but he seems to be only going for reach schools, and if he doesnt get into them, he'll go to a community college.

He seems to think he is going to get into University of Pittsburgh (which a lot of kids in my school do get into), but I keep telling him to not get your hopes up. Am I wrong? Does he really have a shot? What other places in pennsylvania do you think he should apply to? I told him maybe PSU/Pitt branch campus's, or maybe clarion or westchester over in philly. what do you think?

Off the top of my head, I would suggest Gannon, Susquehanna, and Hiram as possibilities. Your suggestions on UPitt branches as safeties are a good idea.

I don't think its too likely. Pitt main is a reach. He may be admitted - or squeak onto the wait list. But its not a school to bank on as a freshman admit.

Actually, attending a cc, and getting good grades, would be a very reasonable route to Pitt. He just would need to be careful about transfer credit and such.
