Friend's transcript says he is Native American..he is not

He is actually Asian (Japanese), and was wondering whether he should ask our school to change it or not. He transferred to our school freshman year, and the secretary must've just put down N.A. without asking him. Our school gives you the option to include race on your transcript, or to not if you feel uncomfortable reporting it. He knows that being a Native is like 20x better than being an Asian in regards to college admissions, and honestly he looks a little bit like a Native American.

So can he get away with this?

Oh, he also has a sort of neutral last name which doesn't really hint at a specific race.

I’m not 100% sure about this, but in terms of college admission, I think you’re supposed to prove what tribe you’re from…

While race/ethnicity is generally on the honor system, Native Americans are often asked to show tribal affiliation.

What makes you think NA did not mean Not Available?

^Lol, that could be true…

It won’t matter. He will be asked his race/ethnic affiliation on each college app which he can complete or leave blank. That is what each college uses, if they are looking for URM students.

or non-applicable if you from another species

i was just wondering, is being jewish a good or bad thing, give your honest opinion.
dont tell me “it doesnt matter”.

I wonder if an Asian (ORM) leaves the field blank. Will this help their chances?

^^
You would just put down white, right? Then it would be pretty neutral.

^
There’s a lot of suspicion that then they’ll just look at your last name, even though various colleges have denied that they will do so. But I guess it’s better than putting “Asian.” Racist admission officials hate us.
