Hi. My GPA is currently at a 3.48 Transferable. I want to admit as a Psychology major and will be taking most of the prep classes this upcoming fall semester. I will be applying to all my choice schools this fall. I have completed a total of 29 out of 60 transferable units and will be taking 17 units this fall and 14 next spring that will total the exact 60 transferable units on the IGETC.

I am a California resident and my community college has TAG with some UC schools. I am in ACES (Academic Counseling and Educational Services) and also the secretary of the ACES club. I will possibly join other clubs this upcoming fall. Have received awards for outstanding performances in my previous semester. This fall will officially start my second year at a community college.

My Top Choices:

UCLA
UCI (w/TAG)
UCR (w/TAG)
San Diego State University
Cal Poly Pamona
Cal San Bernardino
Cal Long Beach
Cal Fullerton

I feel confident because of TAG that I can get into one of the mentioned UC schools but added other schools on the list in case of some future unpredictable changes. If you can suggest me a better way to reorganize my list of top schools, that would be great because I do not know to much about cal state schools and which are the best in the psychology department. Thanks.

You’re in at UCI, UCR, and all those CSUs. If you’re in TAP, then you’ll get into UCLA… But without it, your chances are slim. Have you considered UCSD?

I have thought about UCSD, there prep classes look a bit more difficult but ill consider applying there. I guess all i have riding for me is my essay for UCLA. I received all B’s my first semester but changed that with the last semester receiving mostly all A’s.

I’m also applying to UCLA and majoring in psychology.

At the end of this semester, I anticipate that I’ll have a UC transferable GPA of 3.57
Overall: 3.6

I have all but one (Physics 100) of my pre-requisites done (and will be taking Physics in spring) with a 4.0 in the psychology pre’reqs.

My grade trend is pretty good, and I’m a decent writer, so my personal statement should be fine.

I also have a few E.C’s that I know will look good.

From what I’ve heard/read, the College of Letters and Sciences at UCLA is the easiest (though still isn’t easy) to be admitted to.

If you maintain good grades this semester, hit those 60 units, fulfill IGETC, and have some E.C.'s, I really think you have a decent shot. Volunteer in the community at organizations that help/work with people. That’s what I’m doing. UCLA really likes students that contribute to their community, especially if it applies to their major/career interests.

Wish you luck, and I hope we’re both admitted.
