from Israel test results(Bagrut) to GPA

I would like to request information regarding the transferring system of israel bagrut\school report card to an American GPA.
Although I have read that some colleges do not request this transformation, I would like to know my chances.
After an online examination I have found that a grade of 85-94 in israel is equal to 4.0.
However, some people have told me that only a grade of 95-100 is considered equal to a 4.0 GPA.
I would be very grateful if you could shed light on the matter.
If not general conversion,I am interested in the coversion of Harvard, Wharton, Stanford and Princeton.
Thanks in advance!

What did you eventualy do? I’m going through the same process and i don’t know how to transferr the bagrut

start with this: are you in the top 1-3% of your class and/or do you have some stellar standardized scores (from any academic forum)? if not, you are probably not in the running no matter what the conversion ratio is.

^ ditto collegemom3717.

That aside, your question reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the admissions process at the most selective private American universities.

The universities you named are NOT admitting the applicants with the highest GPAs or test scores.

Instead, they want to engineer cohorts of extraordinary individuals. Are you an extraordinary applicant in a way that you can communicate? Would you consider yourself best in your nation at something? It could be academics (maybe you represented Israel at the IMO), athletics, politics, community service… Maybe you overcame huge adversities. Even being the offspring of a powerful politician or wealthy donor counts!

If you pass that test, you made yourself an interesting candidate for admission. Then the next question becomes, are your grades and test scores high enough to suggest that you are prepared to succeed at Harvard/Princeton/Stanford/MIT? You don’t need perfect grades or perfect test scores to do that (though qualified applicants do typically rank near the top of their high school class). An MIT admissions person once posted on their admissions blog that they don’t discriminate between perfect and near-perfect SAT Subject Test scores - anything in the 700s is fine.

You cannot convert an average to a GPA directly. You would convert every single grade to a 4.0 scale, and then average those grades to get a GPA. WES suggests that Israeli scores in the 84-100 range should be considered an A and scores from 75-83 a B. Let’s do two hypothetical GPA conversions with those guidelines.

Example 1: Suppose you have an 88 average with the following 5 grades: 84, 87, 88, 89, 92. They’d convert to 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, for a GPA of 4.0.

Example 2: Suppose you have an 88 average with different grades: 79, 80, 92, 93, 96. They’d convert to 3, 3, 4, 4, 4 for a GPA of 3.6.

That was a terrific post. One I wish we could somehow highlight on this subforum for all international applicants to read.
