From lawyer, to politician.

Greetings! I have posted a few questions before and appreciated the helpful responses. I would like to be a lawyer in the future. I find politics interesting to say the least; of course, a background of law would most assuredly help me to pursue this. What should be my plan from the undergraduate level? Would majoring in political science be recommended? After graduating law school, what should be my next step? Would I be a representatives aid, or do busy work for a politician perhaps? I would appreciate some information regarding pursuing a field in politics.

There's no one path to being a politician (actually, I'm hoping you're interested in being a public servant, and not a "politician."). I would suggest that you read up on some respected public figures of history and see how differeent political leaders became who they are.

Some of my favorite presidents. LBJ, TR and FDR. Also, read up on RFK, his intelligence, wisdon, compassion, honor and open-mindedness is refreshing, especially given who we have today.

REL,

Consider interning for your representative or senator. The best way to start working in politics is to start at the bottom and get a taste. Hit the tarmac, and all that.

Networking is crucial in becoming a politician, an effective one! Interning will be a good way to build it. Meet many people, and when you become a lawyer, work in the broader side of the world, and try to learn new faces as much as possible and build good relationships with special people. CEOs, politicians, scholars, deplomats etc...
