From Psyc to Humanities --> art history

Hello I am a third year at a cal state about to finish my Psychology major, I really enjoy psychology and I do see myself getting a masters in developmental psychology from SDSU but to be honest I want to learn about art history. I took AP Art History my senior year in high school and I loved it ... I even applied to SDSU in order to major in Art History but I instead went to CSUSM where I am right now. I know many people think Cal States are not research based but let me tell you this university is. Anyways, I want to do my masters in Humanities with an emphasis on Art History at Dominguez Hills but I would really like to go straight into a ph.d level. I know this is possible but I am a little hesitant about this whole desicion because it is something i want but there are a lot of shoulds out there. But one thing I learned is that I need to do what i want not what i should do. There are a lot of post out there on the internet that say that students should not major in humanities, that's why I went for the psychology just to have a backup plan. I also looked at University of Chicago they have great programs. I really don't know how to do all this. It is a big change going from psychology to humanities- art history.... can anyone guide me?

What would you do for a living with a PhD in Art History? What would you do for a living with a degree in psychology? Think that through and you may find your answers.
