Frustrated with my GC

Two of my schools are requesting first quarter grades. One of them says they will throw out my application if not received by 1/29. My counselor says she can only mail them via snail mail and bring a stamped envelope tomorrow. I don’t understand why this can’t be done through Naviance or the Comments n App? How does everyone else send it? My transcript was originally sent through naviance, why not this? Is it not just the click of a button? Also them confirmation of receipt is right there.

Bring a stamped envelope.

Everything is confirmed by paper documentation and a school “stamp/seal”. They need to check background colors and official transcripts.

Too many people, in the past, have tried to forge documents; paper documents that are transported through a federal agency, like the US Post Office, keeps it real.

Tampering with US mail is a crime, so if someone tries to commit fraud, through the US Mail, its a big deal.

@“aunt bea” I agree, but they send the initial transcript through Naviance, so why would they not be able to send the updated grades through Naviance too? I just worry about the timing and the lack of confirmation.

Did you read what I wrote? Take in a sealed envelope, now!

My kids had to bring in a specific $ amount, stamped (at the post office), empty, 8 ½" x 12" padded envelope for each school requiring a midyear report. Mrs. White’s office was overloaded by stamped envelopes!

It should not take more than a week. If it were to get “lost”, your school would be responsible, not you. Don’t wait until next week because then it will be really LATE. If you don’t do it, then it means that your college choice is not important enough for your to find an envelope and stamp.

FWIW: Anything can be changed within a computer program.
Your receiving colleges need to look at the actual documentation, texture and background of your transcript.

Our registrar had to put two seals/stamps on, of different colors. One seal indicated that “it” was official documentation from our school district. The second stamp noted the date of graduation after the ceremonies.

Quit being lazy and do it, or you will be on here next week complaining that you didn’t do it, and that your application has been pulled.

Did YOU read what I wrote? Obviously not, because nowhere did I say I am too lazy to find an envelope and a stamp. My question was if my school sends transcripts through Naviance, why not a quarter grade? I have a letter from school saying mid-year grades (after February 10) will be sent via the format the original transcript was sent, which would be Naviance, but yet my guidance counselor wants to send the quarter grades via snail mail. FWIW: In this century school documents are sent electronically all the time and widely accepted. The schools ASKED for the quarter grades to be sent through Naviance or Common App! Why don’t you just keep scrolling if you don’t know the answer? You are very rude. And name calling? Are you really an adult?

@jnkam24:

Your use of school/schools should, in future, be differentiated (college; high school) or (college; my school).

I cannot speak for aunt bea (who, by the way, knows her stuff), but it seems that a counselor who is telling you she will comply with the transmission of your mid-year grades, on your time schedule to make sure your needs are met. This is probably a very busy time for her office, but having in hand the items that will allow her to get your information into the mail to ensure their timely receipt requires just one thing of you: the envelope (to which aunt bea suggests you also add postage).

I do understand that you question the high school counselor’s insistence on working in a mode that you find outdated; I’ve had issues of the very same type. But questioning it is just you letting off steam, and not actually moving you toward getting your need met.

As long as you continue to update your high school counselor on the dates when things are due, and you make this known in a timely fashion (she already knows, I’m just telling you to poke your head in and smile when you remind her) everything will work out for you.

I also find it odd bc the school asks for it electronically. But your GC has done it before, so I suppose it will go off fine. Just keep an eye on your portal.

Didn’t mean to be rude @jnkam24; you sounded like my son.

Yes, it probably would be easier for you to have your grades submitted online, but it is not easier for your GC. She and her colleagues have to get out (at my schools site) about 400 midterm stats per GC. (That is not including the 20 or so schools that each student has applied to)

My office was near the GC offices and they are always swamped at this time of year. The best way for them to organize and comply with reports, for each student’s request, is to ask for envelopes. (“This stack covers this student; he’s done.”) In this manner, they give a formal, textured copy to the receiving colleges and the GC can physically “check” each form being submitted, making sure corrections are in and match what you’ve taken.

Additionally, the registrar (the keeper of grades) is often behind and has to double-check the teacher’s grades and enter that information into the computer. People get tired and can “accidentally” submit/type in the wrong credits, wrong grades, etc. Your GC double-checks that. That’s why they want the envelopes.

  1. Bring in a stamped envelope tomorrow. Drop it off at his/her office before school starts tomorrow. Thank your GC for taking care of it.
  2. If it makes you feel better you can email the admissions department at the college and let them know that your GC has sent the transcript out via USPS on 1/21/16.

Definitely do what @happy1 says. Email your regional representative. At my D’s school no one sent anything out in cotors. The transcript looked like any random piece of paper from the 1980s. Also, in situations where there was an urgency her GC would email the school herself to let them know it was coming.

Hopefully @jnkam24 you’re just venting and you’ve already handed over the stamped, addressed envelopes. Look, sometimes bureaucracies request things we think are insane but if that’s what it takes to get your transcript to your applied schools, that’s what you need to do. You’re complaining won’t change the process and may ultimately harm you (you do want your transcript mailed, right?)

If you haven’t handed over the envelopes yet, do what @happy1 suggests. It’s good advice.

good luck
