FSSP advice? - UCSB

So I have a huge dilemma. I want to do FSSP, but I won’t be able to room with my friends because they are not doing FSSP and i really want to room with them, i do not want to stay in San Nicolas for the whole academic year but I’ve heard it’s hard to change dorms after FSSP. Also if I do FSSP I’ll miss out on a 7 day cruise my family is going on. If I don’t go to FSSP I’ll get credits from a community college but I really don’t want to miss out on FSSP it seems so fun and worth it and there’s opportunities for friendships, anyway, any advise? Will I regret not doing it? Is there anyway I can switch dorms to be with my roommates after FSSP if I do, do it?

My daughter is doing FSSP and we were told that you are in San Nicolas the entire academic year when we called the school. Then I read on the website somewhere that if you really need to change your roommate/residence hall, then you can ONLY do it 2 weeks after the fall semester starts and you will get a random room assignment where ever there happens to be a room available. So most likely, if your friends have a 4 or 6 person room, when they self-assign during these next 2 weeks they can’t prevent others from choosing the last open bed if they happened to like the location, or if UCSB randomly assigns someone else to the last bed in their room before fall quarter starts.
