<p>The FSU website states that FSU CoM is an allopathic medical school. How is that different from a regular med school? Is it a quality school? Thanks!</p>
<p>The FSU COM is a fairly new medical school. I think it was established for training in primary care. Because it's new, it has very limited programs. Maybe someone else can give you better info, since I'm not too familiar with the COM.</p>
<p>Allopathic means it grants MD's this is opposed to Osteopathic schools which grant DO degrees (Doctor of Osteopathy). There are 125 Allopathic medical schools in the use and probably only 20 DO schools. </p>
<p>The distinction between allopathy, osteopathy and homeopathy is philosophical and historical one. The wikipedia article gives a decent explanation.</p>
<p>While the article focuses on actions of medications, you can think of allopathy as treating only the disease, while osteopathy, and to a greater extent homeopathy devote a greater effort to treating the entire body.</p>
