I know the Board is overwhelmed with chance me requests, but I would be interested in what other parents of freshman have been experiencing. My son is OOS from the Philadelphia area. He has already had strep throat and lost his wallet. And pledged a frat. And there’s school. First point I am glad we were advised about from other parents is that if your son or daughter is going to pledge that first semester, that’s the best semester to take it easy a bit and he has a lightened course load. Still he is doing the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, but pledging definitely – and no matter what any frat tells you – consumes almost all free time that first semester. My son has classes, pledging and the gym.
Health services was really good considering it was the first time he had to take care of himself, get to the doctors, fill the prescription and take care of insurance. They helped him through it and took excellent care of him.
The life coach program is really good for OOS students. While my son moans a bit, he will admit that the coach raises a lot of issues he hadn’t thought of.
Losing his wallet was a true educational experience for all of us. We did not link up with Sun Trust. We should have. It would have been much easier to get him money.
But overall he is extremely happy.
