Hi! I'm in a debate on which school to go to. I have been accepted into both FSU and USF. USF has a better engineering program than FSU but FSU is more prestigious. Will employers care about the better education or the better reputation of the school. Saying my expenses, GPA, etc are all the same.

Would it make a difference if I plan on working in FL vs out of state? or am I just over thinking all this.. Thank you in advance, I am new to the forum. :)

You’re over thinking it. :)

You’ll do great at either school. You can do Civil, Electrical or Mechanical at either school. However, if you’re looking at Chemical, Computer or Industrial, you’ll want to choose USF (USF has the larger engineering college, and it offers more engineering majors).

It’s not likely to matter if you plan on working in-state or out. Engineering jobs are less based on school reputation that most other majors, it’s much more based on skills/grades (internships, design projects, etc.).

With that being said, feel free to take expenses into account (you’re much more likely to earn a merit scholarship at USF than FSU, for example) and “fit”. Visit both schools and apply to both.

Good Luck!!

Thanks! I forgot to mention I’m going to Chemical Engineering. So you’re saying USF because it has a larger engineering college. Why? More resources?

If it makes it easier for you, neither FSU or USF are prestigious. One may be ranked slightly higher, but that hardly makes it “more prestigious”.
