Hi. I was looking to transfer into Florida State for summer or fall for Criminology. I am currently enrolled as a freshman at a private university in Florida and my GPA is a 3.88, and the semester ends in three weeks. My high school grades were also very good and I graduated with a 3.7 unweighted GPA. I looked that FSU also takes into consideration the SAT scores of transfers, which is the main reason why I don’t think I was accepted into FSU when I applied last year. My highest SAT was a 1500 on the old SAT, and then I took the new one and got a 980. I also wanted to add in that when I applied to FSU last year I applied regular decision, which is harder to be accepted into. I have an extremely bad concentration problem and standardized testing is not my strong suit whatsoever, so I really hope they disregard my SAT scores. What are my chances of being able to transfer?
I think once you have a year of grades under your belt they don’t care as much about your test scores. That’s a great GPA!
I’m in the same boat! I am hopefully transferring in my sophomore year, 3.0 GPA considering I didn’t take a full load fall term, and I got a 1180/1600 on the sat
Good! I’ll let you know how my application goes to help you with yours if you have any questions. I am so nervous I love FSU so much and really want to get in
Trisherella, I already submitted my application with only my first semester grades. I tried to put my application in as early as possible like the FSU transfer webpage says. Do you still think I am ok? I am so nervous
I am beyond nervous all I do is search up about transfer students. Typically students with AA have priority acceptance verse those who do not. I applied for the summer term with a HS GPA 4.1 and an SAT score of 1180. I was rejected last year because I had an 1000 for an SAT score, but if all else fails just try to get a High gpa now and see. I’m hoping to hear back by February 1st, my application was submitted December 1
I know I am in the same boat, rejected because of my SAT. They say that they have a holistic process, but I see a lot of students who had average high school/college grades but exceptional ACT/SAT’s got in and not people who had exceptional high school/college grades but average ACT/SAT. That could be just me though trying to make myself more nervous haha.
Also it says under the freshman/sophomore-level applicant section: “NOTE: The best indication of your potential academic success at Florida State University is your calculated transfer GPA. Very few students with less than a 3.0 calculated GPA will be admitted.” So I am just really praying they disregard my SAT’s this time and take in account my 3.9 GPA from my current university.
As a lower-level transfer (under 60 credit hours), you have to meet the requirements that FSU has for incoming freshman-level students as well. If your SAT/ACT scores are below the minimum and you are applying as a lower-level transfer, you should be concerned because that means there is a good chance that your application will be denied.
If you have low test scores, your best bet is to simply wait and apply to transfer with your AA. It’s not the end of the world, and assuming you have over a 3.0 GPA your odds of acceptance are significantly higher than without your AA (plus your test scores and anything from high school don’t matter).
Honestly it’s tough to guess. A lot depends on how many applications they get this year.
I also just calculated my weighted GPA and it was a 4.0, so all of my scores seem to be within range besides my SAT :-S
Let me know if you get in! I had to change my major from a limited access to a non limited access
Just make sure you’re on the right course for your major
So did you find out yet @cayleejest ?? And I am! Criminology isn’t limited access and I think a majority of my credits will transfer
I haven’t heard back I’m still waiting ugh!
@stella2799 is there a way I can contact you outside of this? It’s really hard to continuously get in touch. If so let me know! I was hoping to hear back today but so far nothing
@stella2799 @cayleejest I too applied for criminology at Fsu and I would be a transfer student as well… did u guys here back from them?
hey no i havent heard back, are you an aa transfer or lower class?
@bbreezy nope I haven’t heard anything. My application was finished January 12 and they said it takes 6-8 weeks to hear back
