This isn’t original at all, but I’m very torn between these two schools. I want to go graduate or medical school eventually, so money is one of the top factors.
UCF is giving me a lot of scholarship money and I basically wouldn’t have to worry about very much debt, however FSU didn’t give me any scholarships so I would have to work on that myself (which I believe I could manage, but it will be a lot more difficult) But I also do want the traditional college experience with good academics, which I’m not sure UCF could provide me with due to the size of the school and the whole “commuter school” rumor everyone tends to go on and on about. The size of UCF is a negative and positive to me, but mostly negative since I hear it’s harder to get the classes due to the size and I really need to graduate in four years and not take blow off classes just because I wasn’t able to get the classes I needed that year. And the graduation rate at UCF seems pretty horrid in general. (35% apparently for 4 year students?)
I would rather live in a city like Orlando compared to Tallahassee, but since I don’t have a car it wouldn’t really matter since I won’t be able to go explore around Orlando that much. FSU seems like it’s much easier to live at without a car.
I also applied to FSU’s Women’s STEM program and believe I find out if I get in a few days, which would guarantee me a LLC dorm and more opportunities to learn about my field (paid lab opportunities, internships, things like that) I couldn’t apply for UCF’s STEM program because they didn’t include my major, and the Honors college hasn’t accepted me and I don’t know if they will. Also I wouldn’t be guaranteed a dorm I want like I would be at FSU, especially since I will be paying my deposit so late.
Sorry on the long explanation, just wanted to give some background and pros/cons. I know that I have to make this decision myself, but I would like any help from people who attended or are attending either schools!
