Fudge. My governor had an affair.

WHY?

Ugh.

And I liked Sanford too. And his wife.

And he was doing such good... now people won't like him anymore because he broke all the southern ways (and Northern ways... but that doesn't matter because he's a South Carolinian.)

Stupid man.

That’s a shame. I knew there had to be something more to that disappearance :(

You say it like no one knew before. The news outlets have been making fun of him since yesterday. And I don’t believe him when he says its an affair; he’s lying, just like how he lied already.

Well the Guardian doesn’t really have a clean record when it comes to honest journalism.

I wasn’t talking to you or about the guardian.

Another family values toting conservative…it is getting old.

No.

I mean he really did have an affair. He announced it in a news conference today.

http://newledger.com/2009/06/what-sanfords-affair-means-for-republicans/

^Video.

And why would he lie about having an affair? That’s just killing his career. o.O

And no one expected that he had an affair. It was a pretty big shock. People were wondering what was up with his disappearance but the last thing on their mind was an affair.

Sanford’s had a pretty tough time lately. Taking off kind of made sense.

But it’s very stupid of him. He’s misrepresenting our state. Someone of his status should NOT have an affair.

Actually no one should have an affair. It is cruel, stupid, and cowardly.

But in that video… All of the women standing behind him have HUGE smiles. Why would you smile about that?

I think its more of a political suicide when you leave your post for a week without telling anyone than when you tell everyone you have an affair. But he’s a Republican, so I should cut him some slack. It was expected. :)

^That’s uncalled for.

I don’t go around syaing that just because someone is a democrat that they are a certain way.

Anyways… Either way… it is wrong.

And I, a Republican and South Carolinian, am appalled by his actions.

Hmph.

I don’t want to get into politics but that doesn’t do any good to the Republican party at all. It wasn’t even a week ago that Republican Senator John Ensign admitted having an extramarital affair.

But Democrats have had their own share of embarrasements as well. Anyone remember Eliot Spitzer?

Well, its a good thing the Democrats don’t talk about moral decay all the time then.

Am I alone in not seeing what the big deal is :(? I mean, the 7 day disappearance is one thing - a governor can’t take a week-long vacation whenever he wants. What I don’t get is why sleeping with another woman should ruin your career… It’s not like it killed someone or wasted money (unless he misused his authority - but it doesn’t seem likely, assuming the plane ticked was bought with his own money).

I think I’m missing something here - so that’s just my (somewhat uninformed) opinion :).

I realize that. I can still comment.

HAHAAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAA

that’s such a childish viewpoint. I remember that viewpoint being expressed by Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes.

That’s an honest question to ask.

The point is… a group of Conservative Christians will no longer be voting for Mr. Sanford because of his breaking of a holy vow.

That group basically is what makes up a large sum of his voters.

It is not a childish viewpoint. ^-^

Sanford (and other Republicans) tout “family values” and try to claim moral superiority over Democrats. How can you do that when you have someone like Sanford who lies to his staff that he’s “hiking on the Appalachian trail” when in actuality he’s in another continent having an affair. Let me remind you that this is only the second Republican in the past couple weeks who has admitted to an extra-marital affair.

The bottom line is that he’s a hypocrite and the Republican party is sinking in its own hypocrisy. At least Democrats don’t claim moral superiority.

LOL I read about it.

^ i agree. a hypocrite indeed. but this is old stuff, i’m sorta used to governors having affairs now.

Ugh, he’s a crapfest. (I’m from SC too). His stimulus argument was STUPID, and now he goes to do this… I’m ashamed.

Looks like the GOP can scratch him off the list for candidates in 2012. Not sure if the Republicans will have a serious chance in 2012 anyway. But, the last time the Democrats had this much power was when Jimmy Carter was in power…then we got 8 years of Reagan and 4 years of Bush 1.
