If my financial aid pays for my full college tuition then is it worth it doing any scholarships?
As far as I have heard it seems that scholarships are simply used to reduce personal burden and if you have none (as I currently do) then the money from the scholarship goes directly to the school.

So, if a scholarship doesn't have any serious merit (unlike science projects and such scholarships) then is there any incentive to do it if you wont get the money?

Well I already go to the school. I go to CUNY City College of New york where I usually pay around $5,500 in yearly tuition. The TAP and Pell grant aid cover the tuition costs year round.
So no, there is no work study or loans involved.

Frankly i was hoping that scholarships could cover other expenses that the school couldn’t such as a travel and books. For such necessities I am at the mercy of whatever gets left behind for me to use from my aid.

Yes, the scholarships that you would win would go to YOU because your COA is HIGHER than what you’re getting in aid. So, your current aid is NOT covering COA.

while TAP and Pell are entitlements that will not be reduced by outside scholarships, Op needs to be reminded that the outside scholarship money would be considered taxable income to the student. it would also have to be recorded on the FAFSA.
