I was recently accepted into the University of Michigan's LSA college. I also received a full-ride to Wayne State University and was accepted into the Irvin D. Reid's Honors College. If I go to UofM, I will most certainly be taking out loans. I plan on going to graduate school after 4 years, and at the same time, I want to have a full-blown college experience. What would you do?

Wayne State basically told me that if I applied, I would have a full ride. I was pretty sure I’d be accepted into U of M at the time (and I was), so I didn’t even bother with Wayne.

Personally, I’d rather pay at U of M than go to Wayne for free, but it all depends on your priorities, really.

Visit both of the schools and pick the one you like better.

I also would take Michigan over Wayne State however, realize that this is a total of around $90,000 dollars covering all four years.

Definitely consider the financial impact - if you’re going to have huge loans, Wayne might be better, especially since you’ll have to pay for grad school, too.

My family has saved enough to afford U of M with very little in the way of loans, so that was less of a factor in my decision.

If you’re looking at closer to $15-30K in loans, I’d definitely go with U of M. If you’re looking at the full $90-100K in loans, plus grad school loans after that, Wayne might be the better option.

You need to talk to your parents. If they are going to pay for most of UMich, then no problem.

You can only borrow small amounts without parents co-signing.

You can only borrow…

So, will you be able to afford UMich?
