Hi there,
I'm just wondering whether applying as a freshman would give me more chance for a full tuition scholarship. I've just graduated from High School and planning on studying at Kent's or King's in the UK as a freshman. However, I really want to get full scholarship at an US University or College. I heard that a lot of universities and colleges give more scholarships to freshman than transfer students.
Supposing that my SAT score is from 2000 to 2300 and GPA is 3.5 and above. Should I apply as a freshman or as a transfer students? Which give me more chances of a full scholarship through admission at any U.S university that offer full scholarship, e.g Tulane, Northeastern, Ohio state.

You have a much better chance at a merit scholarship as a freshman applicant.

Absolutely a better chance as a freshman. Also, even some of the schools that meet full need will not extend that guarantee to transfer students.

Be aware, however, that whether you apply as a freshman applicant or a transfer may not be entirely up to you. If you have studied for a year in a university in the UK, many American colleges and universities will insist that you apply as a transfer student.

Sikorsky makes a good point, but if you can choose, definitely go with freshman.

Colleges vary in who they consider a transfer student, anywhere from taking one post-HS college class to less than a full year of college. If you have attended post-HS college full time for a full year, you will be considered a transfer applicant at ANY US college.

You need to got to the college websites and see what they offer, there are relatively few that will give a full tuition or full ride to transfers. Go to the Resources sticky thread on the Transfer Students forum, there is a link to merit aid for transfers.
