I'm currently in the process of registering for classes Senior year. I'm definitely taking 6 AP's, though AP Government and AP Economics are semester classes, and Student Leadership IV (aka Student Senate) as a zero-hour/before school class. Should I fill the remaining two class periods with extra classes such as speech/mythology/philosophy/etc? Or should I leave them available for free periods?

…Bump…

Bump again!

as they won’t see your AP scores, pack in that schedule. unless you have an internship, job, or family obligation

It depends on your school. My senior course load consists of 3 APs, 1 “unofficial” AP, and 1 creative “slacker” class. That’s considered to be a tough course load at my school, since AP classes are taught quite rigorously.

However, your school is probably different. Does everybody take APs? Is taking 6 a normal thing? If it is, then fill up the schedule some more – you don’t want colleges to think you’re slacking. If not, then leave the two free periods; you’ll need 'em!

I signed up for 6 APs my senior year and ended up having to drop one for a free period. I thought I could do it because I didn’t struggle with taking 5 junior year and everyone says senior year is your easiest…that’s not true. College applications, scholarship applications, a heavy course load, and maintaining leadership roles in extracurriculars is going to eat up a lot of your time and you need to maintain good grades in your classes for midyear reports. You don’t want your grades to suffer because you over extended yourself. Granted I don’t know you or your school and maybe 6 APs will be nothing, then by all means take them and more but I am just letting you know what I experienced. Good luck!
