Are there any universities/colleges that give full tuition to high GPA achieving transfer students?
Do you have financial need? Or are you looking for merit awards?
Are you transferring from a community college or another four year college?
Do you have sufficient aid at your current college, and if so, why are you transferring?
I’m looking for financial need based and merit awards.
I’m only a freshman at a 4 year, but I will be either transferring to a community college or a 4 year during my sophomore year (family reasons) and will most likely be transferring again for my junior year, which most 4 year colleges and universities accept transfers for the upper division.
I want to gather a list of all of my options ahead of time, transferring from a community college or 4 year for financial need based and merit awards.
Well…if you transfer to a community college…you need to speak to the transfer advisor there. That person will have some understanding of who will accept your credits and might provide you with aid.
In terms of four year schools…of you are transferring, you are no longer a freshman at most places. Most schools reserve their best merit awards for incoming freshmen. In terms of need based aid…this will depend on the policy of the colleges. Some schools do guarantee to meet full need for all transfer students… but these are highly competitive spots.
Many schools do not provide the same level of aid to transfer students as to new freshmen students.
This will vary by college.
Does your state have aid for low income students? Are you a low income student?
My state does provide a type of aid, but it’s for all students despite of income and it isn’t very much. My state doesn’t provide specific aid for low income students, and I am a low income student.
What is your state
How strong of a student are you
Are you leaving your current school for financial reasons? If so, you should leave at the end of the semester so that you don’t end up with an unpaid bill next semester…otherwise you could really be screwed.
My current state isn’t really going to matter because my family is going to be moving to a new one, I don’t know which one yet, and I can’t afford on-campus or apartment housing. I live with my family. This is my first semester of college, but I have two classes from duel-enrollment and have a 4.0 GPA from that.
Since your family is going to move to a new state, you might want to take some time off if you plan to apply to public universities in that new state. You will need to reside in that new state at least 12 months prior to your enrollment there to get instate tuition.
And in many places, you can’t get instate status by enrolling in college. You have to do that before you enroll.
Your main hope is that your family’s moving to a state with low tuition and/or excellent need based aid.
Merit aid for transfers is usually much lower than for freshmen. However need based state aid is typically similar. For instance, the NYS tuition free system applies to freshmen and transfers who are NYS residents.
