Full Tuition Scholarship?

The website says that students that get scholarships have a 1450 SAT, top 5% rank, and rigorous course load. Is this the cutoff for scholarships? If so, what kind of stats do you need for a full tuition scholarship?

@classof2017, When awarding full scholarships, the Scholarship Committee looks for students who are participating in the most challenging curriculum available at their school and achieving close to the highest GPA possible. Furthermore, full scholarship recipients earn very close to the highest SAT or ACT score possible.

Hope that helps!

I received a full tuition scholarship from Pitt this year, and to put it in perspective, my GPA is a 97.21 W/95.83 UW, I have a 2260(1490) SAT and 35 ACT as well as 770 US History and 710 Chemistry SAT IIs, and finally have taken 4 APs in past years and am taking 4 this year.
Hope this gives you a bit of insight.

I got a full scholarship and I had a 35 ACT score, 4.5 weighted GPA, and took 9 APs in total

My GPA and course rigor are about the same. However, I haven’t taken SATs/ACTs yet but IDK if I can score that high. Is there anything in between, like a half tuition or something? I am in state btw.

@Classof2017, Scholarships range from $2,000 per year to full tuition.

@hailtopitt1787 – is there an appeal process for scholarships and, if so, when does that process begin? My D has several full tuition offers but Pitt is her #1 choice. We have heard nothing at all from Pitt. I know that scholarships can be sent out as late as March 1 but she is hoping to make a decision sooner. Thank you for any insight that you can give.

@PhilaSkiMom, We do have a process, but it is intended for after you have already received an offer from us. If you think you would like appeal and need to know more after you hear back about any scholarships you daughter may be offered, feel free to DM me or contact our office and we can explain the process to you.

As for the timing, I believe you already know most of the information I have to share: decisions are made weekly and the latest anyone would hear back is March 1st. The Scholarship Committee works very hard to give every candidate a thorough review. While they do their best to work quickly, it can still take some time to hear back because of the number of candidates the Committee is reviewing. I thank you for your patience in this process. I know it can be stressful to wait!

If you have additional questions, you or your daughter can feel free to contact our office: oafa@pitt.edu or 412-624-7488 and we would be happy to assist you.

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 is preference given to in state or out of state? What about extracurriculars? Is it all number based?

@class0f2017, I do not believe there is a preference for in-state or out-of-state applicants. The Scholarship Committee does look at extracurricular activities and essay questions in addition to your SAT/ACT, class rank (if your school does that), GPA, and strength of curriculum.

Hope that helps!

How do you find out if you have received a scholarship offer?

@bryan925 you will receive a letter in the mail stating your scholarship and amount. It doesn’t show up on your pitt portal and there is no email communication regarding scholarships
