What school-spirited stuff do you guys do at basketball games?

What do you mean? My old school had dancers and the students just painted their faces.

I meant something along the lines of pep bands, theme-nights, etc.

O, do you mean leadership-realted activities? My old school would have different themes and colors that each grade would wear. We also did several holiday-related activites during rallies.

Yeah, different themes and the like. What kind of holiday-related activities did you guys do?

For Halloween we had this contest to see who had the best costume. All of the activities vary. Sometimes we had the captains of all of the sport teams stand in the middle of the gym and they would do some activity. For example, we had pie eating and jello eating contests, balancing contests, and relay races. All of the students in leadership would put on some act too, that typically involved dancing or singing.

Those are all good, but I was talking more about stuff to do during the game.

We have a group of guys who come to every game shirtless with their chests painted, no matter how cold. Sometimes they can get some girls to go in sport bras with painted torsos. They sort of help lead the cheers and everything and get everyone’s spirits high. We also have a thing called the Nuthouse (since our school has Nut in the name). They come to every game and are basically required to be huge enthusiasts. Since it’s a club, people join with their friends and it makes games more of a common social outing.

Besides that, for theme-ish things, you can do white outs, or class colors, or maybe school spirit colors. White outs seem to be the most popular thing. If you can contact the other school and get them to do another color, like you guys are red and the other guys are black or something, it can engender a certain sense of competition.

Last season, we advanced to states. Things we did:

Painted school colors on torsos and faces on almost everybody. Blocked (one half of the crowd was all one color, the other half another.

Mascot in full costume/jersey.

Lots of chanting.

Stormed the court during halftime.

Synchronized actions.

We were always the best student support at the games lol. Even though we ended up losing states.

In the first half, when the play clock hits 10 start counting down from 7.
In the second half, count down from 10 when it hits 7.

Thats the best thing a student section (or fans in general) can do at a basketball game.

During FT’s have everyone completely quit. Complete silence. Then have one girl yell right before the guy releases his shot, “i want your ****”

**** = four letter derogatory term for the male genitalia

Dick.

It’s not censored.

Nope was thinking of something more explicit.

Sigh.

Gotta pull out the ole UrbanDictionary again.

EDIT: Actually I can think of another one.

^LOL
Why do all of these threads end like this?

HAHA. You’re right Warts.

Sorry :]

So a fun thing to do during a basketball game would be to implant a magnet in the basketball, set up a giant variable magnetic field around the gym, and in the middle of the game, levitate the basketball and run it around the gym. Watch the basketball players run around after it. Bonus points if they are lifted up because of diamagnetism of water.

Oh, wait. School spirit…?

Nah.

One time ESPN showed up, and all the students had Lavin masks on to make fun of him.

Another time, Dick Vitale was doing commentary, and after the game the students rushed the court just so that they could run over him.

Well at my school no one really cares about basketball (even though they’re really good, 3rd in the state this year). But our football team is even better and people get excited about that. Some of the stuff we do in our student section you could do in basketball too.

We have tailgates before the game with free food, and that helps bring kids out. You would have to get funding for that from somewhere in the school though so pretty much the school has to commit to being a basketball school.

There’s a them for every week. Some examples were 300 (where everyone dressed like Spartans), jungle (basically as little clothing as possible), one week all the girls dressed like football players and the guys dressed like cheerleaders, stuff like that.

I don’t know if you guys have a pep band for basketball, but that helps too. We have a lot of songs that have certain traditions that go with them like a chant or a little skit thingy someone does, or a dance that someone does. There are positions that are passed down from seniors to underclassmen (like someone is appointed to do a certain dance or lead a certain cheer. For example, one of them involves a cowbell. The kid that has the gowbell is know as “cowbell guy”)

Oh by the way, a winning tam helps too.

Anybody here plays Handball?
