Our student government is trying to get new ideas to improve our pep rallies. Usually we just have:

The national anthem (sung by school choir)
School's fight song (played by the band)
a couple of lame games
Introduction of a specific sports team
Spirit yell

My school is pretty spirited, and we get into the pep rallies, namely because we have class competition between all of the classes. At the end of the year the class with most points wins (it’s always the seniors since it’s their last year, but we all try to win regardless).

We always have the national anthem and the band always plays different songs to get everyone pumped up, and then the sports teams for whatever season it is at the time come out. Then we have some games, which everyone always gets really into, and then class competition. Class competition consists of points for the class that wears the most red (red and white are our school colors), class that wins the games, and class that yells the loudest. We have a competition where each class takes turns stomping their feet, yelling, etc.

The reason our pep rallies turn out so well is because the majority of students are spirited and yell, dress up, and so on and so forth. This year, the senior class came up with interesting ways to enter the stadium/gym after everyone else had entered. For the fall pep rally, they all gathered in the courtyard and got a police escort in.

At my school, pep rallies are OUTRAGEOUS. And when I say OUTRAGEOUS I do mean it. Week before rallies classes decorate their respective halls (man if I could show you the pictures, it’s amazing except if I did it would reveal my school haha) with props, illustrations. Like last year one hall was Star Wars themed and the class made life sized cardboard cutouts of teachers and photoshopped their faces on different characters (imagine your favorite male teacher’s face on Princess Leia’s body.) At the rallies itself there are skits (some years there were space, James bond themes, cartoon themes, 80s themes, you name it). Every year classes do their choreographed dances, which surprisingly, are very detailed. Real fun to have rallies where I go.

Yeah, it’s pretty cool. For our winter sports pep rally the seniors all entered the gym once and ran around the gym–and some of them had little tricycles and stuff like that.

Pizza party for the last couple hours of the day a few days before school ends.

When I was in high school last year (Class of 2013 baby!), my favorite part was marching into the crowded gym filled to capacity with over 1,300 students while I played my quints to my drumline’s cadence! I was a member of my school’s marching band (I refer to myself as a drumline member, however), and we always made our pep rallies come alive!

The other thing that I really liked was standing in front of all these students after my performance as I was a member of the 2012 homecoming court (I would eventually be crowned homecoming king!)!

Classes are shortened. I believe we have 4 rallies. They tend to include grinding, the national anthem, and a couple games. The best part is the band at the end.

My school’s pep rally is terrible. Everybody gets out of last class, and just freaking SITS there on the bleachers and talk with their friends. There are no raucous chants or cheering for the sports teams that march across the track. Everybody is just … chatting with their friends. Same thing goes for our Powderpuff Game. Smh. I wish I could raise school spirit, but there is no way. Nobody likes our school. It’s really a hopeless cause.

The stuff you mentioned was all pretty good, generic stuff. Everybody does it, and it works. Tried and true formula. However, it only raises “spirit” if people actually have school spirit haha. If they don’t, well, then, it’ll be terrible. Like my school’s.

Do you have spirit week as well? Spirit week is a good way for people to express themselves bombastically, and hype up everybody as well
