i am having trouble staying on task. do any of u feel that way during prep? its like u wanna have fun, hang wit friends, play games, watch t.v. during prep. i feel this is interfering wit my prep. how did u all handle this???? did u even have trouble stain on task??

Bump!@#$%^&*

you have to hire some thug to stand outside teh room and beat the $h1t out of you if you stop prepping. I found it pretty easy to prep: I did 4 practice tests from 10 reals, the 4 days before SAT, and got 1410.

close your door and sit quietly for a while

then start studying, say to yourself "How bad do I want this score?"

get sucked into the SAT world and it will seem fun too hehehehe

omg, i'm feeling that way right now!!! i just can't concentrate on studying!!! hey, does someone want to brag about themselves so that i can get motiviated? here's your chance!!! ;)

Michael pham,
its not possible to just say that and sit quietly studying. i mean there is too much interfeerence in the world like TV and VIDEO GAMES, FRIENDS, and its hard to concentrate. i can manage 2 hrs. before blowing up.
WOW I JUST GOT AN IDEA!!! I could do 2 hrs. intermittently- having breaks between the 2 hrs and continue and so on and on. NO wonder they give u breaks during the real SATs.

You can't really study for verbal SAT section, only math, tips for verbal could include...

analogy: determine the relation between the first two, they could be opposites the same, noun to noun, adj to adj, noun to adj, verb to verb, parent object to child object, then find the word(s) in the choices that would bring the same relationship to the other side of the analogy. Then from there narrow down those choices to the words that you know and if they could be the right word, finally double check and you have a good shot of getting the analogy right, if you do it right you should be able to bring it down from 5 choices to 3 or 4 by determining the relationship, then from 3 or 4 to 2 or 3 by narrowing it down from there with words you know don't work, and if you are lucky enough to have 2 left, you have a very good shot of getting the answer right

sentence completion: one of the easiest ways to do this one is to determine the connotation of the word they want, is it positive, is it negative, do they want to negate the first part of the sentence, or agree with the first part of the sentence, once you have gotten the relationship and can take a few choices off, use your knowledge of the words to narrow it down some more, and hopefully you will be able to choose the right answer at the end, it also helps if you say the sentence in your head with the choice you believe to be the right answer, if it sounds correct in your head, and most of the time it will, it is probalby the right answer

critical reading:this is probably the only section that you can study for in verbal, i find this one the hardest, and don't have any advice for narrowing down the choices except for practicing

just some tips for the verbal section

for the math, the best way to prepare is to practice practice and some more practice, also for the quantative comparision make sure you try to find an exception to choice A, or an exception to B, or to C, this way you don't get fooled when the answer is choice D

just some advice, and my two cents, good luck

wow that really helped me

Thanks A Lot

I always felt sick when doing SAT Prep, so i jsut did the SAT questions of the day on college board and i got 1440 the 1st time 1530 the 2nd.... so im probably not much help

holy crap... i'd say 2 hours in a row is very long.... you say you can't concentrate? i just studied like 20 min a day... and 1 hr during calculus class .....lmfao....

SalikSyed:

dang i atleast need to do like 7 hrs. for vocab and i do a practice test everyday man. did u take da test? wat did u get 4 staudying just 20 min a day. I dont wanna spent 7 hrs. man. DANG ITS TOO MUCH!!!

hmmm, this is very strange - i should be the one putting up these kind of posts. I pretty much have ADD, to the point where it takes me 1-2 hours to fall asleep. But I had no trouble doing three 2 1/2 hour practice tests over the last couple of days and each one in one sitting. Very weird...
