yea for some reason when i get to a function problem i feel like im reading another language...anyone have any advice/books that would help?

Do you have a TI-89 Titanium?

I never understood it, but my calculator does!

^ haha. The biggest thing for me was probably my precalc class. That really solidified my knowledge about all kinds of things, from functions to graphing conics and stuff like that. worships teacher

whenever you get a function problem on the SAT, realize that they give you enough information to solve the problem. Do you understand what a function is? if not, then start there.

Here is a sample function problem just for fun:

If f(2) = 1 and f(12) = 10, then what is f(7)?

That's unsolvable, unless you state that it's a linear function. Could be parabolic, exponential, etc.

it was on the kid's SAT who I tutored yesterday

lets assume its linear

you have to state what f(x) is

no....that information was not given on the SAT question. It just gave you what I posted up there. and it is solvable.

No, you don't have to give f(x) if it's linear. The problem is that you have to find what f(x) is, then plug in 7. Or you could do it with a proportion, I suppose.

bingo...thecomisar. This was like the last one in the math section.

You're KIDDING. That is so easy!

I hate the way CB ranks problems... the ones I have the most trouble with are almsot always level medium, whereas the "hard" ones at the end are no problem.

is it 6 (x10 chars)

what does (x10 chars) mean? i see something like this all over the forum, lol

if its linear won't it be 5.5?...just using slope

^ Yeah, 5.5

(x10 chars) - There is a 10 character requirement to post on CC.

alright thanks
