Fundamental Flaw in APUSH Crash Course REA?

While the book's organization is very good, I feel that because the content is structured almost entirely on previous APUSH released exams, it is not exhaustive of the material that we will actually need to know for Friday. Though I did fairly well on the teacher audit exam (after guessing penalty, 61/80), I am worried that this is only because Crash Course was written based on this and four other past tests.

Essentially, I don't believe there has been an appropriate "check" on the material in Crash Course, though this problem should be alleviated once another APUSH exam is released. For the time being, to past APUSH test takers who relied on Crash Course, did you find any surprises on the actual exam or did you feel that the book prepares you well enough to score a 5?

Interesting point. I can say that Crash Course performed very well on last year’s AP exam. I can also say that Crash Course performed very well on yesterday’s SAT II US History test. Remember, each test is a link in a chain. The tests must be reliable and valid. So the questions all flow from the Course Description outline. Look carefully and you will see that Crash Course closely follows the Course Description outline.

I have to agree with Dark Knight. I used the REA Crash Course last year for US History, and needless to say, it prepared me very well for the APUSH exam. I strongly believe I scored 68+, and I got a 5 to prove the REA’s competence. I highly recommend it!

It seems to leave out very much though. Can we still score high essay scores by only studying Crash Course?

I suggest taking notes on every chapter in there - it’s very easy and it helps you remember everything really well. If you do this, study previous high scoring essays and practice a few of your own, you should have a good shot at the essays.
It leaves out allot because allot of the stuff in your textbook (Custer’s Last Stand, specific Civil War battles) are not even in the actual exam.

Well it leaves out many acts of congress that I thought would be essential for the test. And a few things about presidents, and doesn’t cover Carter or Reagan very much at all.

I’m confident I aced the MC last year thanks to Crash Course…

(I completely blew off the APUSH course the summer before and only read Crash Course to prepare… got a 5.)

I firmly believe that Crash Course secured me a 5. It was dead on for last year’s AP, most notably the multiple choice. I was prepared for the essays from my APUSH class, but Crash Course was so, so incredibly helpful.
