How can i get extra funding for the semester when i am currently unemployed? When i filed for the FAFSA back in feb., my mom income and my income was already 35k combine. Back in March, i was recently laid off and have been unsuccessful in finding any kind of job. I am hoping i get a new job before September . The cost of attendance at the school i am currently enrolled in, is about 17 thousand per semester. Is there a way to sign up for loans or anything that will allow my pay for the semester. Can i get a parttime loan without a cosigner and with decent credit?

Sounds like you can’t afford this school.

how were you supposed to pay for it even if you hadn’t been laid off.

How much money do you need to borrow?

Are you a frosh?

I started school back in feb, that was my first semester at this school. I applied for finical aid and they cover half the cost while i had to pay out of pocket. I had no problems with money for that semester. My biggest problem that i have i am currently laid off, finding any kind of job is hard and impossible and that the financial aid might be different then what i originally had when i started.

You should contact the financial aid office. I believe they do have some leeway for displaced workers which is the category that you now are in. It will depend on specific circumstances, college fin aid policy and the discretion of the fin aid officers as to how this can be treated. Are you getting any unemployment income?

I am getting unemployment income which is what i am using to help me and my mom live in our apartment. Its not enough to save for the semester

As I said, talk to fin aid and let them know. Maybe send a PM to Kelsmom who can tell you what kind of leeway fin aid officers have in this situation. She works in college fin aid. I’m sorry this happened, and hope that some resolution can be reached so that you can continue your education.
