<p>@bethKa that was a cheap shot. You can make this point if equally qualified female or minority candidates where not selected, but at least in UF’s case, the final three candidates where clearly the best qualified. </p>

<p>In fact, one reason Fuchs was available, is that Cornell hired Elizabeth Garrett, the provost of the University of Southern California, to become the next president of Cornell University, the first woman to hold that position. Cornell was the last of the IVY’s to not have had a female or minority president. Now they can put a check in that box (with the well qualified Garrett) and UF gets Fuchs. </p>
