I would very much like to start a future doctors/physicians club at my high school. I was wondering if anyone had ideas on what the club would do (have speakers/raise money for research/go to hospitals/have discussions). I just don't know what the discussions should be about (new advances in medicine/bioethics/ or even different diseases), or what we would do for field trips. My schools is right near some very good hospitals but I don't know how we'd set up a visit or what we would do there. Any input is greatly appreciated thanks.

I know there a a couple of threads on this already, but they are petty old.

Just join a health care organization club. It looks better if you do general volunteering/fund raisers because they’re all broad and look good for any college. I’m not trying to knock you down, I really am not…but as a junior in college looking back to ME in high school, I was an idiot and wasn’t equipped with the educational tools nor the outlook to see what a career in medicine is like (I still haven’t gotten there yet).

No matter what IB/AP courses you take, until you take an MCAT/Ochem II mechanisms test, you just don’t know how deep into medicine you REALLY want to go in, so it’s a little awkward to start a “future doctors” club. I’ll assume you’re around a sophomore/junior in high school. 4 years college. 4 years MD. Assume residency 4 years…it’s REALLY hard to say you know your outlook in 12 years. Just join a general health organization college.
