Future Dual Enrollment Student

Good morning everyone,
I am in a bit of a complex situation and looking for some advice.

I am currently going into my junior year of High School, my schedule for my senior year contains 4 AP’s (Bio, Lang, Physics C, Government). In my sophomore year I took APUSH and AP Chem, received a 5 on both of them. Currently my GPA is at a 4.045 (weighted) and a 3.96 (unweighted) with 16 high school credits.By the end of my junior year, I will have 22 or 23 credits and by my senior year I will have around 29 or 30 high school credits. I’ve read that some people have graduated early and went to a smaller college in their senior year, I do not plan on doing that. I plan on going into a biology or chemistry major, and maybe go to med school after getting my “pre-med” done.

Here’s my dilemma, I plan on dual enrolling for my junior year and senior year to a University close to me, I would consider it pretty good as it’s quite expensive (around $400 per credit). I want to take a few chemistry courses for this fall semester and for the winter semester take a few language courses and history courses. I am only doing this in hopes of raising my chances of getting into an Ivy League University, and in hopes of being able to transfer that credit to that University.

I am worried that I will not be able to transfer credits and potentially waste thousands of dollars, and that dual enrollment might actually hurt my chances.

Here’s a few more facts about me in a nice list:

GPA (weighted)- 4.045
GPA (unweighted)- 3.96
SAT ( taken twice in 10th grade)- 1380 (essay 4/3/4) & 1470 essay (6/4/4)
SAT Subject test- Mathematics Level 1 -720; Mathematics level 2- 710; US History -710
AP Scores- APUSH-5 ; AP Chemistry -5
Currently in advanced math by 1 level

Thank you for any advice you can provide

Doing dual enrollment will not increase your chances at an Ivy League school, particularly if your HS offers enough classes to fulfill the course rigor expectation. If you’re taking 4 AP’s as a senior, my guess is that your HS does.

Each school sets up its own policies on pre-college credits, but in general Ivy League colleges will not accept transfer credits for DE classes. That may allow you to bypass a similar courser at the university.

Of course, all this depends upon actually being admitted to one of these colleges with single -digit acceptance rates.

Perhaps not weighted as heavily as courses taken later while at college, all DE courses must be reported when applying to med school and get factored into med school GPAs, so do well in DE courses.

I’m taking 4 AP’s as a junior  was planning to take 5 or 6 AP’s as a senior. I might take it easier on the number of DE course, after reading up on more information, it does appear that Ivy Leagues will not be super impressed by DE courses. Thank you for your advice!

College courses and grades earned in them while still in high school will count toward pre-med GPA calculations.

Many private colleges restrict credit for college courses taken while in high school, although they may allow advanced placement depending on evaluation of the courses if you matriculate there.

Five or six APs plus “a few” college chemistry, language, and history classes? Do you plan to sleep at all during your last two years of high school?

At some point you check off the “challenging coursework” box and move on to other parts of your high school career.

I wouldn’t do dual enrollment unless it was free or really cheap.
