I'm going to be a freshman (9th grade) next year, and course selection has already begun. I'm planning on taking this:

Honors Geometry
Honors Patterns of Communication (English class)
AP World History
Honors Chemistry
Spanish II
Elective undecided

I'm starting to worry that it will be too much? Also, what electives are fun, interesting, and somewhat easy (not blowoff, but like not stressful)? I also have some EC's, but not sure yet.

I don’t suggest Honors Chemistry (isn’t it a 11th grade class?), it will actually kill you. I’m a freshmen now, I took it for a few weeks, the teacher suggested I just do honors biology (10th grade class). So I’m taking regular chem next semester.
Just take honors biology or something at least one grade level above you.

As for electives, do w.e interests you. I took IT and photography.

Honestly, I was just like you 8th grade year. Don’t worry. Don’t put too much weight on yourself. Have fun in high school, while still striving in academics.

Wow, congrats on already thinking about your high school courses! My 7th grade sister isn’t thinking about high school or college at all…I really hope she will be next year.

I agree with silkmilk; Honors Biology sounds like a better bet. Chemistry is usually a 10th/11th grade class, depending on the school.

As for electives, how easy the course is usually depends on the school. P.E. is probably the easiest class ever invented (that is, as long as the teacher isn’t really mean and as long as you are in reasonably good physical shape.) However, it is not what I would call “fun” at all. Art courses are probably the most fun. I would recommend taking one of those. Also, it’s probably a good idea to take Health freshman year (it’s required at a lot of schools) so you can get it out of the way.

You schedule looks great to me! However, expect to experience an adjustment period when you go from middle school to high school. Middle school is a bit different from high school (some students find it significantly harder), so expect the unexpected. I am in no way saying that you should choose easier courses; like I said, your schedule looks awesome! You seem like a self-motivated student who could definitely handle it.

I had a very hard adjustment period that lasted my entire freshman year and part of my sophomore year. My math class seemed really hard (I was taking Algebra II and had to adjust to a totally different math curriculum). All my other classes were either not nearly hard enough, boring, or had a horrible teacher. It didn’t help that I had to take all mandatory classes my freshman year and had no option for a chosen elective. Because of this I ended up becoming frustrated and a slacker and my grades dropped drastically. DO NOT let this happen to you! Remember to work hard throughout your freshman year, because a low GPA will affect you throughout the rest of high school.

I wish you the best of luck as you enter high school next year. I’m sure you’ll do great!
