Hello
Can you guys help me pick high school classes, I am currently in 9th grade. I will give you a link to my school’s course planning document.
11th grader here.
Depends on your subject/field of interest, as well as the college you are looking to attend/aim for. Could you provide me the link to the complete list of courses offered in your school as well as the courses you are taking currently?
here: Course Guide.pdf - Google Drive
right now i have
ap world histroy
algebra1
spanish1
english1 honors
physical science
and other electives
Only 1 AP in 9th grade??!! Good luck getting into community college
Jokes aside, your schedule seem perfectly solid as a freshman, notwithstanding any bad grades. Continuing your academic rigor through sophomore year I think it is fairly reasonable to expand your AP curricula to 2-3 classes, or if not possible, adding honors classes (since your school doesn’t seem to offer as many AP classes). Below is my optimal suggestion:
For social studies, assuming that you are doing well in AP World, I would suggest AP US History. AP Modern European history also sounds like a feasible choice, but it is much harder (according to my colleagues at CC).
With math courses, I believe it is best to continue with the conventional path of taking Geometry.
Many colleges prefer seeing at least 3-4 years of a world language so I would strongly recommend continuing your Spanish curriculum through Spanish 2.
For English 2, it depends on how comfortable you are with your current English class - if you feel like you are ready to take on more challenging coursework, go with English 2 Honors, but if not it is perfectly fine to take the on-level path. You definitely don’t want to sabotage your GPA in an attempt to overload yourself.
In terms of science, it seems like biology 1 is the baseline course to take every other science course, so definitely go with that.
As a follow-up, could you reply with the electives you are currently taking, as well as the field of study you are potentially interested in/may want to major in college (can be tentative)? That way I can give you the schedule that best suits you.
The best advice is to work with your teachers and guidance counselor to develop a schedule that is appropriate for you/your HS. None of us know your academic abilities (including any strengths and weaknesses) or the difficulty of your particular HS.
Aim for a schedule that is challenging yet manageable for you. Be sure to take four years of all core subjects.
How well did you do with that schedule? All As? Some A and Bs? Was it a challenging schedule or not challenging enough to your taste?
Then 10th crade would be
-AP European History (asking the Academy teacher?) Or AP US history
- English Honors
- Spanish 2
- Biology or Chemistry
- electives that make you write if you are interested in humanities/social sciences, intro to CS if you are interested in STEM.
If you want to study science, math, technology, or business in college
Algebra2 AND Geometry
If you don’t, just Geometry
Ask what the pre-reqs for UWO biology or physics are, so you can take them.
