i'm sure you'd fit right in, esquared

well, I do have the breasts for it

It seems they are prettey popular around campus too...i have a game tape from the football program this fall and the main camera angle overlooks the soccer field. it so happens that it was one of the girls playoffs games that day.....it looked like there were more kids there than at the football game ha

yea-when i went and visited last october i chilled with them and they are amazing

"Holyspirit and davan- I'm running track for the first time this year (hurt my shoulder, no baseball) and i am having alot of fun .....would running around 2:05-2:10 800m be good enough to hold my own in D3 track?"

Eh...I'm not sure really. I know sub 2:00 is generally the standard for like doing the 800m "well". And around 1:50 is what the guys at the Penn Relays run. My teammate for the 800 leg of the SMR runs about 1:51 and he's going to Columbia for D1 track.

i dont know about you guys though, i keep hearing about the negative attitude the student body has towards athletes...but the two times i've been on campus i haven't seen any of it.... i was at a basketball game this winter and the vibe was real nice ( no, it wasn't duke or something, but being realistic)....all the athletes i've met seem real down to earth and normal- the student body as a whole seemed pretty accepting...for people who have visited, whats your opinion?

Maybe for athletes that are slightly below the average intellectual level at UChicago? idk. I knew I would have gotten in regardless of sports, or at least I think that the Univ. Scholarship I got is evidence of that. <3.

I agree - I've seen a certain level of "you don't really deserve to be here" attitude on every high academic school i've been to, but not too much of it at chicago.... i also recieved one of the university scholarships, i feel like i can hold my own in the classroom

i'm not an athlete...but am friends with tons of them...doesn't u chicago need normal ppl though?...its like an attraction to the school
personally, i wouldn't wanna go to a school without athletes, they add excitement even if they aren't the smartest in the class

if you are saying i add excitement...then thanks ha...but lets not stray too far off topic, the "normal-ness" of the uchicago student body has been debated way too much... who else is playing something next year- varsity or intramural....?

If you're running a 2:05 your first year running track, that isn't bad. To hold your own in UAA (Chicago's conference), you'll need to be in the mid 1:50's, but that is very realistic for even next year with a quality off-season, which I assume you did not have (few high school athletes do).

About athletes not being as smart--depends on how you define it. The kids at the top of my class are not athletes, but the guy who is considered the absolute smartest by basically everyone is big time into track/xc and was recruited by a bunch of D1 schools, but will be going to Yale. A lot of people with higher GPA get there through means that take minimal intelligence, but a lot of brown nosing and being a loser (selecting the right honors/AP classes for the highest possible GPA, sucking up to teachers, all nighters, etc.).

I was really more curious as to what kind of times are normal in D3 track... i probably won't want to double sport it at uchicago , considering workload... and i fully agree with the statement "the highest gpa is not the most intelligent student"

Depends on who you compete against. As I said, you need to run mid 1:50's to be respectable, but low 1:50's and below are a must if you want to be seriously competitive

Eh, this will probably be my first and last track season, I'd rather lift in the football off season then kill myself around that oval ha i guess you can tell i'm not a runner at heart

Track can help you immensely for football, just an fyi.

ha good point, maybe maybe, i havent met any of the track guys, is it pretty cool group of guys? any of you going to the april 20-21 overnight?

I second the frisbee.

And fencing. :]

Track guys are always a cool group of guys.

do they offer tambourine shaking?

-_- boopie
