Future Neurosurgeon

I have had my heart set on Brain surgery ever since I was just a little kid. Now I am a junior in high school and I am starting to plan my future. I live in V.A. and I was wondering what I should be doing over the summers to help me prepare, what colleges I should be looking at for my undergrad, and what colleges I should be looking at for my graduate work. I need some help so feel free to give all the help you can.
Thanks,
Tony

if you're a good student, you shouldn't worry about going to harvard or stanford for pre-med because what school you go to for undergrad doesn't really matter. any top 30 or 40 school we do just fine for getting into top 10 med schools. just be sure you get a good:

1) MCAT score
2) undergrad GPA
3) some research
4) good rec's

school prestige doesn't really matter, so go somewhere where you feel you fit in the best, gets you best prepared, and where you can get a good GPA.

what colleges are you thinking of in undergrad terms and med school terms?

I am thinking of the Virginia schools becasue thats where I live. Like UVA, William and Mary, Mary Washington, Virginia Tech and so on.

UVA and W&M would be awesome undergrad schools for what you want. UVA also has an AWESOME med school.

Very interesting. I graduated from tiny but intense Marlboro College in rural Vermont. An alum from my class is in her 4th year of an MD/PhD program at Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia in neuroscience. Marlboro has an almost 100% acceptance to medical school.

You might like it and thrive as you already have an intense interest and goal at such a young age. Good luck.
