<p>I heard putting a common major could hurt your chances. Is this true?</p>
<p>Depends on the school. Some schools limit access to particular majors (computer science at Carnegie Mellon, for example), but some don’t at all care what you put down because they admit everybody as officially undecided until the end of freshman year or whenever.</p>
<p>You should check the policies by college, especially considering future plans is by individual college.</p>
