the cold is not that bad really. i dont wear a hat or gloves half the time. i usually just wear a heavy coat, or layer. also my coat is not that long and it doesnt bother me. basically dec-feb are the only months it gets really cold. i have had a snow day as late as april, but it ended up being like 50 that day. if u have any questions about the area i can answer them, i dont go to the college, but i live in the area so i am in hillsdale and lot, and i am fairly familiar with the college because i know a lot of people there.

What cross says probably works very well for a person used to Michigan’s weather, but for someone who is totally unfamiliar with cold temps, just keep in mind that it may be an adjustment. Friend’s son, from San Diego, is going to school near here (eastern Ohio) and thought he’d about die when I picked him up at the airport last weekend. With temps in the single digits and plenty of snow, he was wearing flip-flops and what I would describe as a spring jacket.

Layers is probably a great idea.

Cross - are you planning to attend Hillsdale College?

^no, i might apply but i am from the hillsdale area, i actually go to a high school that is run by the college though. i just want something new, and also because hillsdale isn’t really what i want. a lot of my friends go there and i know a lot of the faculty, so i feel like it would be like high school, but i would definitely recommend it

So cross, you go to H. A. ? Great education from what I’ve heard.

You may be disappointed when you realize the “quality” of education to be had at other schools. Good luck, both to you, Cross and to our OP.

Has anyone who applied for early action to Hillsdale received acceptance or denial letters yet? I think notification is supposed to go out by Jan. 20

Notifications will be mailed by February 1st. If anyone has received notification already, please post… Thanks

“You may be disappointed when you realize the “quality” of education to be had at other schools.”
what do u mean by this? hillsdale is a good school, but it is weak in the sciences and i am pretty sure at the moment that i want to go to med school. its great for some majors, but i want a more well rounded school.
yes i do attend HA, i dont know how it compares to other privates, but it is better than any other schools in the area at least.

Cross, my daughter is attending Hillsdale, and is an English major/Chemistry minor with the pre-med track. So far all of her science classes (even labs) have been taught by Phd’s, and her advisors and fellow students can show an excellent track record of Hillsdale students accepted at medical and law schools.

She was accepted at Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Duke, Davidson, and Notre Dame. And she chose Hillsdale. And has not regretted it for a second. She has told me that everything about her education there has been first class, she knows her professors well, the student body is comprised of brilliant, hard working, honorable students, and she can’t imagine getting a better undergrad education elsewhere.

I certainly wouldn’t overlook Hillsdale for the reasons you stated, unless you just want to live somewhere else in the country.

The only problem small colleges have when it comes to their science programs is scanty material base. However, I spoke to the chair of the physics dept at Hillsdale and he gave me a tour of their labs. They have a lot of nice “toys” for such a small school. ;)

well i really dislike hillsdale and the general area, and i dislike somethings about the college and the general culture of the school overall. as a whole it is just no for me and whats best for me, and my schools seem to definitely be better for pre-med at least. i am extremely confident that it is not what is best for me.

thats what you should have started with ;)
