Does anyone know when the interview for the GAP programs will come out?
@indianboy2400, are you inquiring about the med school GAP?
If so, you can find a general outline of the process on our site: https://oafa.pitt.edu/who-fits-at-pitt/guaranteed-admissions-programs/medicine-gap/
Mid/late January: Students who are selected as candidates for the program are notified and invited to submit additional materials to be considered for the program.
March: Approximately 10% of those students who applied for the GAP are invited to interviews with the medical school.
April: 8-12 incoming freshmen are selected for the program and notified by April 15th.
Best of luck!

Getting kind of worried about the GAP interview…on the website it says that applicants will be notified by the second week of February. Does that mean that I didn’t make it to the next round?
@indianboy2400, I am checking with my colleague on this. I will get back with you when I have more information.
@hailtopitt1787 Thanks for your help!
@indianboy2400, have you received the invitation for GAP?
HailtoPitt1787, how successfully the pre-med students of U Pitt can be matriculated in Pitt med school or other med schools? Do you have a general rate? I heard the students from higher ranking schools such as WashU STL, UNC etc could have better chances to be admitted to Pitt Med school. I would appreciate it if you can share your thoughts.
@PADad7777, The numbers you are asking about are listed on our web page for the med school Guaranteed Admissions Program: https://oafa.pitt.edu/who-fits-at-pitt/guaranteed-admissions-programs/medicine-gap/
“For the fall of 2013, 4,982 students applied for admission to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and 373 were offered admission. Eleven percent (11%) of the applicants accepted completed their undergraduate work at the University of Pittsburgh. In the same year, the first year class consisted of 162 students. Nineteen percent (19%) of the first year class completed their undergraduate work at the University of Pittsburgh.”
I will have to do a little more searching for information on other medical schools. Let me get back to you on part 2 of your question.
Let me know if you have other questions.

@PADad7777, The Health Professions Advising center in the University Honors College shared this information with me about 2014 AMCAS (American Medical College Application Service) for the students they advise:
185 students applied to medical school. 100 were accepted and 107 matriculated. The average MCAT for Pitt students was 29.5, while the national average was 26.6. The average MCAT of accepted Pitt students was 32.8 and the national average for students accepted into medical school was 29.7.
If you have further questions about pre-med opportunities at Pitt, let me know.

Incredibly prompt reply, thank you! Is that possible to see the medical schools distribution of those 100 (or 107) students who were accepted?
@PADad7777, That information I do not have readily available, but let me reach out to Health Professions Advising.

@padad7777, We are happy to help!
@hailtopitt1787 The list you provided is extremey informative. Is it possible to have numbers after each school (# of admitted in each school)?
Thanks
@PAdad7777, sure! It will take me a little bit of time to get those numbers and fill them all in. I will do so when I find an opportunity in the next couple of days.

While this is not a complete list, it illustrates that Pitt students have resources and mentors available to them to enter a variety of schools. It depends on what each students’ goals are and where they would like to go, but our Health Professions Advising staff are dedicated to helping each student build their unique path to medical school from as early as their freshman year. http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/health-professions-advising
And with Pitt’s recent ranking in U.S. News as the top U.S. school for the health professions, any student who chooses Pitt to start their career in medicine will be in good hands and surrounded by lots of great opportunities: http://college.usatoday.com/2015/03/24/best-u-s-colleges-for-studying-health-professions/

@hailtopitt1787 – you have been such a help, thanks! One more question – Pitt is a sponsor in National Merit Scholarship Corporation list. Usually, when a finalist goes to one of the sponsors’ schools, he/she will be awarded something by the sponsor, does Pitt do that too since Pitt is a sponsor?

this thread has some info in post #415 and #420. Seems like there are three NMF $1,000 awards given out, but not sure about selection process, so maybe send a DM to hailtopitt1787 for more info.
@PADad7777, We award National Merit College Sponsored Awards, in the amount of $1,000 per year, to three (3) incoming freshman. To be considered for one of these three awards, the student must have informed the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that Pitt is their number one choice school.
Best,
