Gap year after 12th?

Hello fellow Indian CCers,

I'd like to know if it's okay to take a gap year after 12th to prep for SATs and then apply for Fall 2013?
Also, I've seen most people here study in CBSE or ICSE. I'm in Maharashtra Board. I had 95 in 10th. But scored terribly low in 11th as I missed the practicals and lost almost 180 marks (out of total 600).
I hope to score 90+ in the coming board exam.
Do students from state boards even have a chance
with SAT scores like 2200+ and math/science subject tests 700+?
I'll be needing financial aid above $20k/year which my dad can pay (the more aid, the better though).
I'll be applying to Ivy League schools, MIT, Stanford and some other medium rank schools.
I've stopped preparing for AIEEE, CET and concentrating wholly on boards since that'll matter while I apply to schools in the US. But after reading threads in here about CBSE and ICSE students, I've become a bit demoralized. Boards are just 20 days away and I can't concentrate properly!
I've started to think to let go of this US schools thingy and prep for AIEEE in the gap year!
About ECs - I've got quite a few interesting ones. But can't type all those from this filthy phone. Ask me if you wish to know anyway.

im not sure if youll really need a gap year to study for the sats, they just need some amount of practice. you could possibly go to a college here for a year…though im not sure if youll have to apply as a first year or transfer then…or spend the year doing some insanely outrageous extracurricular activity (and then writing a book about it :D)

try hard to focus on your boards though…dont waste too much time on cc, it can get kind of addictive…
Good luck :)

OP, my case is just like yours… 10th amazing…11th bad…12th amazing(hopefully)
wanted to get answers to the same questions you have.
