<p>I am thinking about doing a gap year to Israel. Has anyone at Amherst done a gap year before attending? What was your experiences? Do you recommend it? How did the deferment work? Any suggestions?

<p>A gap year is a highly personal decision and even those who’ve been through it will have different reasons and experiences. </p>
<p>That said, I’m currently on a ten month break between high school and college because schools in Singapore end in November and colleges in US begin the following August and I’m finding this arrangement disappointing because I’m one of those people who enjoys being in an environment of constant intellectual engagement and discourse. </p>
<p>Deferment of admission is a different thing altogether. You basically write to the college you’ve deposited at requesting to enroll one year later. Most schools should be cool with this.</p>
