Garcia Summer Research 2018

I got a confirmation email before so I’m pretty sure that they have my email address. Do you think they don’t inform the rejected applicants?

Got accepted lol
I’m from China

A facebook group was just made. “garcia summer research 2018”

so a question for alum - on the website it talks about a mentor program after Garcia summer is over that allows us to continue research during the academic year - does anyone have more details on how that works?

got my email today. accepted :slight_smile:

Has anyone been accepted but will not be attending?

anyone know anything about the waitlist?

@hopeful310 2 years ago, they had 30 people on their waitlist. I don’t know about now though

I got waitlisted. It’s pretty much a rejection but I’m ok with that. Although I was really interested in the research Garcia offered, it would have been a hassle to enter into competitions like Intel since I don’t live near the New York area. Obviously experience matters more than entering competitions, but it’s still nice to keep that option open.

@Azonymous
You will need to get something figured out with your mentor and Prof. Rafailovich individually. Usually if you live on Long Island or anywhere near that it’ll be pretty easy.

@IcyHurricane
You still got a chance. A Siemens Finalist from Garcia two years ago was a Sophmore who got off the waitlist. (Though things maybe different now that Siemens don’t exist anymore).

How will future national competitiions like regeneron work out, since those require individuals?

how are you guys going to pay for this since they do not offer financial aid

Have any waitlisted people heard back yet?

did anyone hear back?

I was waitlisted too. Weren’t they supposed to email us with a final waitlist decision last Wednesday? I’ve tried contacting them too multiple times via email and they won’t reply. The least they could do is let us know if they’re still making decisions regarding the waitlist…

@andoverexeter99 well everyone had to commit by Tuesday so they would know how many people would be getting off, so it’s possible that they take time to decide who to notify. And I thought they would never contact us if we never got off because I thought that is what most programs do ? Also, a lot of waitlisted people who get off end up turning offers down so it does take time. I tried emailing them too and I may try calling tomorrow

anyone from the waitlist heard anything back yet?

Nope. They wouldn’t reply to my emails and I tried calling them and when I mentioned that I was asking about Garcia, they said they’d call me back and they never did… I have a feeling that I’m not getting off that waitlist

I’m off the waitlist!!
