Garcia Summer Research Program

Did anyone get into this program at Stony Brook University? If you did, how did you find out; email, letter? What does it explain in the email/letter?

Sorry for so many questions, but I found out I got in by my research teacher who works there and didn't get any letters or emails. I just want to know a little bit more about it so I can understand the program a little bit more. Thanks.

I found out I was accepted by email on April 2, all it said was:

"Welcome to the 2009 Garcia Summer Scholar Program

We are happy to have you on board this summer

soon you will be receiving a package by email that you must fill out and send to me asap
Sincerely,
Lourdes Collazo, MS"

But i was kind of a special case, i had applied to another program and they needed me to accept/reject them by a certain date, so i emailed Garcia asking if they could let me know of my acceptance/rejection asap.

Oh ok. Thanks. Are you going to dorm there?

-----bump-----

Did anyone else on CC get into this program, or went to this program in the past that can offer me some information about it?

I got in, and I got a second emai that said I would get the information packet by email by May 1st, but I haven’t gotten it yet.

Yea, I didn’t get anything, too. My friends who got into Garcia as well didn’t get anything either.

I didn’t get any followup information either

What wrong with Garcia? Was thing a problem for anyone who attended last year?

They seem to be pretty disorganized this year.

Hopefully, they aren’t like this during the actual program.

yup this is disappointing.

did anyone email them about this?

got the email today.

does anyone know approximate housing costs and food costs?

and whether hte dorms are nice?

you did? they haven’t sent it to me or any of my friends yet.

One of my friends that went to another program last year there got free housing and a free food card. It supplied $350 for food for one month (not including weekends) and mostly everyone spent all of it. She said we probably have to spend closely to $450 since we will be the for 7 weeks.

Sorry to resurrect this thread after several months!

I was wondering how the program is going for all of you.

Question: What grade levels can apply for the program? Are there many/any 10th graders (rising 11th graders) in the program?

And are most of the projects group efforts?
