Garrett to be Cornell's President

Eizabeth Garrett, who has served as USC’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs since 2010, has been appointed the 13th president of Cornell University, effective July 1, 2015. Garrett will become Cornell’s first female president, and she succeeds President David J. Skorton, who has been named the next secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.

This is a great opportunity to appoint a USC-undergraduate alumnus as our next provost or a private school-trained outsider, hopefully from the ivy league…

Morty Shapiro was USC’s provost and became president of Williams and now Northwestern. Good for Garrett.
