Anyone else in the South experiencing extreme gas prices and shortages? Im in UNC, so I don't drive, but I've heard it's above $4 in surrounding areas. My hometown got lucky and is only $3.30 at the highest. Many gas stations are experiencing shortages. I'm just glad that I don't drive. It's impossible to even buy gas in Chapel Hill without a gov't vehicle as I heard...So who's getting a hybrid? lol

I saw $5.87 on TV. In my hometown in MN, gas went from $2.54 Monday to $2.99 today.

My Freestate station (usually the cheapest in my area) went from $2.65 Monday to $3.15 today.

Cheapest I've seen anywhere near me is $3.09.

Time to look into getting one of those smartcars that I saw all over Europe. I think they sell them in the US now.

If you're going to buy a new car, buy a hybrid. In 50 years, gasoline running cars will be obsolete.

3.00 dollers here in St. Louis(soon to be 3.30), It's crazy.

Yeah, but will the new car you buy still be running in 50 years?

That's why people sell their cars to buy new ones. Why buy a microwave oven if in 50 years, there will be better technology? Oh, right, because I need to heat stuff.

In return my Oil stocks: GRP, HOS, XOM, CHK ect.... are all soaring in the price of there stock. So in a sense, I'm breaking even despite the high oil prices.

the gas is 2.57 at the costco station....

the gas is free...

just give me a bean burrito with some hot sauce.

Gas prices out by me are up around $3.15 a gallon!

Here's an idea for the US: make cars with better gas mileage. How about those electric cars? I feel hypocritical though, because we own a boat. I'm pushing my parents to get a hybrid though.

Everyday is national Smack Hummer Owners day. I hate hummers. Why do people buy them? To feel safe? I hope you're content w/ the knowledge that if your hummer crashes into my Honda, I'll die and your kids will be okay. It'll probably be your fault too, because your car (more apt: your tank) is so huge it crowds the narrow backcountry roads. I've had to swerve to avoid this same red hummer many times now out where I live. Murderers. I'm going to one up you though: I'm going to buy a tank. And the NRA will prob. support me, because what's the difference between a tank and a rifle? A tank is a gun and is protected by our poor, somewhat outdated constitution.

$4.50 here

Ugh. Prices aren't too bad; they all float around 3 bucks.

BUT, we have some major gas shortage this part of Orlando. I spent THREE hours in a line last night because my dad's SUV ran out of gas.

Mean people suck. THIS CAR (who just arrived from someplace) ZOOMED RIGHT IN as my dad was pulling up at the station. We almost got in an accident. And that lady was a perfect example of ugliness and ugly human nature.

Ooh, and we only have gas for the buses for the next week. Rumors are afloat saying that school may be cancelled 'cos no one can get there.
Argh.

I couldn't agree with you more, or said it any better. I hope people take notice.

Also, gas prices may be really high here in the US but it's still 2-3 times cheaper than the rest of the world gets it, if not more.

Wasent their a Movie on FX, in Early june, which played out this whole scenerio.

I heard that Michigan has the highest average gas prices in the country. Is that true?

Screw the "Motor City". As of lately, it's been the walk/bike city.

$2.61/gal in Alaska. Looks like a new natural gas pipeline will be built soon, and drilling in ANWR is looking like more of a reality every day! With prices so high it is more and more practical.

Yeah, the movie was called "Oil Storm". A hurricane ripped through the Gulf and disrupted a million barrels of oil per day or something around that. Only in the movie, they were shocked when gas prices the next day hit $2.70. Ha Let's hope that the other events don't unfold too quickly like in the movie (7/8 dollar gas)

I don't really see how drilling in ANWR is such a great idea for lowering gas prices right now. It would only reduce our dependence on oil, and that would take several years until the oil can be pumped and transported to refineries. The problem is with a lack of refining capacity.
