GaTech Chances and Advice

Hello,

I am an an incoming senior and I was wondering if anyone could tell me my chances of getting into GaTech?

GPA -
Weighted District GPA: 5.54
District GPA: 4.04
State GPA: 3.61
(not sure which to use)

SAT -
Math: 650
Reading: 640
Writing: 520
(not the best I know..)

EC-

-I am an active musician participating in School orchestras and bands, and out of school groups and solo projects.
-Also record audio as an outside hobby
-Am in the communications program at my school which includes broadcast, film, and video editing.
-Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity regularly
-Have dual enrolled in the past and am currently (more about this below)
-Working on a research project involving knot theory for the upcoming Siemens Foundation Scholarship.
-Worked in a research lab at USF that worked on solar cell research.
-Self-taught computer programming in C-based languages, C++, Java, and other script based languages like Lua.
-Philosophy Club at my school.
-Work with microprocessors in my free time, actually completed a pretty cool project recently involving microprocessors communicating over the internet (My intended major is Electrical Engineering).

I've taken AP Chem, Human, U.S. History, Macroeconomics, Lang, Lit, Music Theory, and Calc BC. I have finished all of my high school requirements, dual enrolled Chem 1 at USF fall semester, am currently dual enrolling in Calculus for Engineers and Linear Algebra this summer at USF, dual enrolling Bio 1, Philosophy 1, Sociology 1 at USF in the Fall, and am waiting for my AP scores before I determine what I dual enroll in the spring (I'll cover 9 more credit hours though. Probably math or physics based classes if I score well.)

Also I am valedictorian of my class as of now. How do you predict my chances of getting into GaTech?

Also, I'm coming from out of state (FL) what do you think my chances are of receiving some sort of scholarship or financial aid from GaTech?

Thank you,
DevenJ

To be a competitive canidate you need a higher GPA and much higher in SAT. Have you tried ACT?

No I haven’t tried ACT, but I think I will this Fall, because I agree I need a higher score in that area… What kind of GPA do I need to aim for? (If I remember correctly though my dual enrollment classes will count the same value as AP courses? So they should really help my GPA considering I’ll have 8 more by the time I graduate right?)

Well 73% of high schools students have a GPA of 3.75 or higher

Is that in reference to my state GPA I suppose? The GPA’s are just the 3 put on my last report Card.

how are those gpas calculate?

if your valedictorian, then you should be able to get in, because Ga Tech automatically accepts valedictorians, no matter what there stats are

@Talha, that seems impossible, as there is no space on the application to enter class rank, there is no part of the application for a guidance counselor to acknowledge class rank, and valedictorian often isn’t decided until well after the admissions cycle closes.

So, I do not encourage anyone to put much stock into just getting into GT because you are the valedictorian…

Yeaa, that doesn’t sound too practical? Idk how they would know, and burdell is right, my rank could possibly change this year (though hopefully not).
