Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

Well out of the 1000… i keep reading in previous posts…
350 African American (Negro Fund)
350 Hispanic (Hispanic Fund)
150 Asian (Asian Fund)
150 Native American (Native American Fund)
So there were around 1,900 finalists last year… (probably more now because of the increase in apps)… So im guessing the probability of becoming a scholar is AROUND 50% …

to all the FINALISTS!!! lets keep an sctive discussion going , I really appreciate the forum, it is very therapeutic, anyone agree?

Yes! Which reminds me… I faxed all my forms today. Is there anyway to check if they received everything? I don’t trust technology… especially fax machines , grrrr LOL

i mailed all my stuff because my transcript is official :)

Darn I was worried about that. The lady at the office said… as long as she signed it, it is official. She faxed the stuff herself… I just watched  lol So i guess i’ll be making a phone call tomorrow… or email? OR BOTH.

my school just slaps an “official” sticker on the back of my transcript envelope and my GC signs it lol

Ok the 0-5 message is up now. They have not logged in any of my stuff.

Yea I just called they have received 5 of my 5…does anyone believe being prompt about sending these documents in quick enough will increase your chances

I was having the same thought. Maybe it’s not about credentialing any more… 1st come 1st served?

well I mean do you think they would gather up all the finalist then decide…its highly unlikely they will do that…It seems to be on the safer side…What can we assume they do for choosing scholars… 1. If you actually qualify 2. Financial need 3…idk …anyone like to fill in

SHSREBEL21 when did you fax your documents?

I mailed in my documents last Friday so I will probably call tonight to see if they received it! Good luck everyone!

I was notified as a finalist last week and I have a question about the scholarship award. I know that medical school is not covered but if I’m interested in pursuing a phD in psychology (meaning a graduate program), would that be covered? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’m just not sure.

I believe that should be covered if it is graduate school. Also I think it covers medical school if you do a dual degree program MD/PhD.

Okay, thanks for your help!

So sad I’m not a finalist.

they haven’t received my documents yet :(

LCB334

A PhD is Psychology would not be covered by Gates.

Ambitious93… i faxed 4 of the 5 the day i got my email…and i faxed my gpa form a fews days after so…3/8 and like the 9th or 10th…what are the factors for being chosen…applicants?past scholars?

Oh, so psychology isn’t apart of the science section?
