Gates Millenium Scholarship 2012-2013

I’m an African American finalist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! But I didnt come here to brag. I just wanted to let everyone who hasnt been notified know that you guys shouldnt lose hope. My best friend who didnt even submit the application was just notified today that she didnt get it so if you have not recieved a letter or email yet saying that you didnt get it, then dont count yourself out yet. Congrats to all the finalists.

Okay so im from a small town in Georgia, and so far me and two others i know that applied have not received any form of notification. It driving me crazy that i havent find out yet and oh im apart of the UNCF.

I am a part of UNCF and I have yet to receive any form of notification yet. It doesn’t seem like many African Americans have been notified yet.

Also! I was wondering if all finalists got phone calls or just a select few!

@Brooky30 I havent received anything either and im a part of UNCF… maybe they are still sending out letters

rejected… weird bc my sister got it and overall I’d have thought my app was stronger than hers.
do you know if they frown on two gates scholars in a family?

I believe that they are still sending letters and emails up to like a week from now! It could be a while before we even find out.

In terms of two people in a family getting it, my older sister applied and didn’t get it. I applied as did my twin sister. I believe that the application is looked at based on content and whatnot, not on sibling status! Sorry about the rejection, I am still waiting for notification myself! Good luck to all!

I am so nervous. Everyday that passes by without a letter makes me more anxious. I am from Miami, FL so I guess that is why it is taking so long.
Congratulations to all who have received their finalist status! I am hoping I will receive it but I’m not too sure.

Well honestly we have two weeks to go according to them…hopefully the kids waiting get the desired outcome…but they should have notified everyone at the same time like some colleges

@Star2012
So its about 24,000 that applied. and 1,800
are finalist. So what is the 8000 for again

Brooky30, that gives me hope, but the problem is that I don’t want to feel hope cuz then the disappointment would be all that much more potent

8000 are those that actually did the application.
24000 includes those that just started it. I can confirm, I have a friend that only started it and got a rejection letter
also, they want to pick 1000. I hope that makes it much easier for me to get the scholarship :(

Received my finalist status 1:38 this past Wednesday, :). Hispanic, CA.

I feel that the numbers and statistics being thrown around are arbitrary, but are there really only 1,800 selected finalists?

I’m hoping there are, but I don’t know for sure. Based on a previous post (page 29 I believe)

Me and my brother both applied, and we are twins and we both are finalists. But then again we have been through the same stuff.

Hey guys, so i’ve read every single post from the 2011-2012 gates forum as well as the current 2012-2013 forum and am proud to say that i am a finalist! I am a female native american from kansas. but i’m trying to keep my feet on the ground because i know the competition is fierce. Oh and i received my finalist notification by mail and email yesterday from the AIGC

Listen you guys, I’m a finalist from Pennsylvania and I’m the only one in my school who has been notified of my status out of the 30 others who applied. Is it safe to assume that they just happen to get to me first or do you think that they didnt get it…

It is safe to assume that they just got to you first. It does not mean that they didn’t get it because everyone should know their status by at least March 15th.

Just got the rejection letter…
