Gates Millenium Scholarship 2012-2013

You guys can’t get into a meets-need school, thus you are not smart.
Stop asking to have things handed to you, take initiative and call them.

Good luck at “insert out of 100 school ranking”.

Prove me wrong

EVERYONE JUST CHILL THE ■■■ DOWN.
hehe.

anyways, just for funsies, anyone want to “bet” on what days their letter will arrive?
State your location, and the day.

I bet tomorrow, and I’m from Oregon.

wow, I’m astounded at how friendly everyone is here =)

ooo Oregon, how is it there?

I bet tomorrow and I’m from Florida… I’m too nervous :(

I guess we are. I just pray and hope that even though I have a 3.32 Unweighted G.P.A, they will look over that and pay more attention on my Community Service, Leadership Potential, my awards/honors on Community Service and Academics , my High School transcript, my EFC, what my Nominator and my Recommender have to say about me. I just hope they do that.

@Geiger… All I can say is I wish you the best of luck.

Especially the D looks a lil scary to me. I am being frank. I dont like sugarcoating etc…I was even realistic with myself. I knew I was on the edge. I had 2 Cs freshman year. English and math and senior year another C in math(Calculus)

I believe the problem with my essays were my grades. Everyone is dfferent. Your service and essays might be exceptionally outstanding. Never lose hope by what other people say as no one but the GMS staff know what exactly it is they are looking for. Peace and love.

Only if Harvard and Yale overlooked my 3.2 UW GPA, 1670 SAT, maybe I would have gotten a full-ride there…

So now you want people to feel sorry for you because of your EFC? Man up and move on, life ain’t fair. Kids work their asses off, they get in need-meet schools that pay MOST, not all of the expenses.

You get 3.3 GPA and want a full-ride? Put some skin in the game. Don’t have everything handed to you. The kids that will be awarded are continuously working their asses off even up til graduation.

Not getting this scholarship will help you all develop responsibility and rid of the “poor me” mentality that plagues the majority of the lower class.

That was kinda harsh…

awkward Moving on…hey there finalists! Hispanic female from Boston, MA. Super excited for everyone!

Based off of the information given earlier about Hispanic letters not being sent yet. I bet I’ll receive the letter Friday. Though it doesn’t hurt to check the mail box every once in a while

Good luck to everyone! I actually have a good feeling about this!

Not to sound like the devil’s advocate, but jeff does make some good points. I am curious to hear some rebuttals before sharing my opinion.

I think everyone definitely has an ounce of hope in them about getting this award. Of course, who wouldn’t? Especially since the opportunity of being a finalist was given to us, we think that we have every right to be a scholar.

I think geiger is just trying to be optimistic, and pushing his qualities out there so that he can feel better about himself. It’s exactly what posting “stats” is doing, just boosting yourself up so that people can praise you and “chance” you.
I can’t blame him, I wanted to do that too, but decided not to because I didn’t want others to be comparing themselves to me because it honestly doesn’t matter at all.
Being a finalist means you have the qualities to become a scholar, and they see that. It’s just that they don’t have the funds for every single finalist to become a scholar, so you’re therefore picked from a pool of above average applicants.

No need to tear someone down for having an oz of hope for becoming a scholar. It’s all we have right now, so insulting people isn’t going to get anyone anywhere.

School is going to go by so slow :(

@Nickjags21 I’m on april break :stuck_out_tongue: but I would prefer being in school. The day goes by so much quicker than anticipating the mail man all day.

And even though Jeff does make a point, this isn’t the place to do it. How about we create a support system here rather than tear people down.

(regardless if that was Jeff’s intension)

blagh i feel sick. I’m guessing mine will arrive today? Since my finalist letter was mailed 2 days before I received it, I’m guessing it’s the same, even though I live on the west coast?

I just really want it today, I’m sick of stressing and getting anxious over it. I can barely sleep.

Where are you guys thinking of going to school?

I’ll be going to Boston College :)

Thats cool! What will you study?

Major: Biology. Minor: International Studies. What’s your major and where are you heading this fall?
